School/Community Partnership honor: Providence Elementary School and the Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have been selected as a Model Partnership by the Partner Advisory Link/SO4 Committee. Nominated by our Third Grade Teacher and Partners In Education coordinator Julie Byers, this partnership has identified us as doing exemplary and innovative activities such as Listening Ears, Compassion Classroom, and reading to our students.

Kudos to fifth grade parents Tracy Ogden and Darcy Schregengost for organizing our first ever food drive.

Operation Smile Final Mile: Everyone is invited to join us at 11:00 a.m., March 21, 2015 as 132 of our students will complete their final mile. Many thanks to our PE Department for all their efforts to help our students be well prepared to run a mile!

Volunteer of the Year: Congratulations to Peggy Garfield for being selected as the PES Volunteer of the Year. Mrs. Garfield has been a gigantic blessing to Providence! For the past seven years, she has come in twice a week to organize bags of books for our first graders. Called our Take Home Readers, Mrs. Garfield collects the books read, organizes them, and redistributes them to each child. As a result of her gift of time, nightly students have books to read on their level. She has a heart for encouraging students to read. We never have to worry about the job being done, she is dependable and shows upmost respect for our students and faculty. She's like an angel, who appears, does her job, and leaves, but an angel we sure don't want to be without!

A huge congratulations to Lexi N. She won 2nd place in the "Art of Being a Military Child" Calendar Contest! She will be honored with an award at the exhibit opening at Lynnhaven May on April 1st! Also, a huge congratulations to everyone for entering the contest- what an outstanding job! Everyone is invited to enjoy the art show that will be on display throughout April.
