Message from the Principal

I am pleased to welcome you to the 2004-2005 school year at Providence Elementary.  We are glad you are here and excited about getting to know and work with each of you.  We are extremely proud of the reputation for academic excellence Providence holds throughout the city.

The Providence family consists of our students, staff, parents and community leaders.  All contribute greatly to our success.  By working together, we ensure our students will excel.  Thank you for supporting school programs and activities.  Please consider joining the PTA and becoming an active member.  Children love to see their parents at school.  Whether you are able to volunteer every day, once a week, once a month, or for special occasions, your contribution is important.

The Providence staff is dynamic.  We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with your child.  We realize how precious your child is to you, and we feel honored that you have chosen Providence as your school.  Working with you, we stand ready to help all children reach their fullest potential.

A Note from Our Nurse, Mrs. Holcombe

~  Please do not send in any medications to school with your child (including cough drops, Tylenol or prescription medication).  If your child needs to take medication at school, there is a form that needs to filled out by your physician.  This form may be obtained in the school clinic or by download below.  Parents must bring the form and the medication to the school nurse in person.......students may not transport the form or medication to the nurse.

Question: "When should my child stay home with an illness?"Here are a few guidelines to help you decide when it is best to keep you child home.A child should stay home...

  • IF they have a fever of 100 degrees or more.  They should stay home until they have not had a fever for 24 hours.

IF they have vomiting or diarrhea.  They should stay home until it has been 24 hours since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.

IF they have an unidentified rash or skin condition.

IF they have colored mucous, which may indicate infection

  • WITH specific conditions, such as, the presence of head lice or nits, scabies, pink eye or ringworm, until properly treated.

~Contact your child's doctor regarding treatment of the above.

~Please contact our nurse, Mrs. Holcombe, if you have any questions or concerns about the above recommendation.
